I've been reading and reading and reading plays, trying to find something I'd like to direct, something that speaks to me. I'm hoping that you all can give me some suggestions for plays or playwrights you know that perhaps would be good to check out.
This is what I'm looking for:
* Full-length production
* Minimum of 5 cast members
* Something that has obvious place for theatrical conventions (i.e. not just straightforward story. There are opportunities for theatrical elements, like stylized dialogue or movement) (e.g. the woman's role in Saucy Jack by Sharon Pollock; some elements of Caryl Churchill's work)
* Strong and in-your-face; invigorates or grabs an audience (e.g. the harsh look at relationships in Closer by Patrick Marber)
I'm open to any themes, issues, etc. Even if you know of something that really speaks to you, but doesn't necessarily stick to the things I've outlined, suggest it anyway.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
